“I chose to work with Bespoke Architects because of its strong reputation, as well as its understanding of the local environment.

Bespoke delivered a bold vision for the site, helped us successfully navigate the planning process and was a valuable addition to our project team.”

The Golf Course House

It’s true to say that Tony and I clicked with Nicole in the first few seconds after meeting her. We arrived at our block of land which looks out towards the 14th tee of the Beach Course and Nicole was enthusiastically taking notes on what she saw around her. We liked the cut of her jib and felt immediately that Nicole would “get us” – and she and Dan did just that.

Tony and I had a very definite idea of what we wanted, though we were more than prepared to be guided by a professional on many aspects. We always knew any house we built would be mid-century inspired and this is something that Nicole sat with very comfortably. When I stated my aversion to downlights and four plaster walls and a plaster ceiling, Nicole smiled with implicit understanding.

Before we even engaged bespoke Architects we were impressed by the thorough summary of projected costs. It was detailed and transparent, right down to the cost of onsite loos. Throughout the planning stage Nicole dealt with the challenges of the building restrictions on our estate as well as the intricacies of planning permits and council interactions. It was a relief to be able to handball all of that!

During the design phase Tony and I felt listened to and supported. We were pleased to hear all the “yesses” to our ideas – “Yes, we can do that. Yes, we can do that. Yes, we can do that.” And on occasion we were also pleased to hear, “That’s not a good idea. And here’s why.”

I have to admit we had our reservations about building a house from scratch, only because we’d seen friends go through all kinds of emotional ups and downs, disappointments and even tears during the process. My preconceived notions were never realised. Nothing was left to chance. We met weekly with Nicole. Any little challenges during the build were solved by Bespoke with great aplomb.

And Nicole kept us on budget with great ideas about materials as well as interior design. Dimensions were perfectly considered to accommodate the mid-century furniture we were taking with us to this new home. The use of sliding walls to make or a third bedroom was inspired. Nicole managed to source the very bathroom tiles we had in our heads. Our extra wide hallway draws you through the house towards the glorious view and shows off our art collection beautifully.

At the end of the day we got a house that exceeded our expectations. We never thought we’d end up with a better product than what was in our heads but we did. We couldn’t be more thrilled with our Golf Course House.  It’s a joy to live in. It elicits a few gasps and “wows” from friends who see it for the first time – and who wouldn’t feel proud about that! The Bespoke team certainly deserve great commendation for their artistry and professionalism.
